Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a spread or paste made from ground peanuts to which sweeteners, salt and emulsifiers or hardened vegetable oil is added.

Peanut butter has been around since the 1800’s. Canada obtained a patent for peanut butter in 1884.

At first it was food for only the wealthy people. As it has a high protein content, peanut butter was served to patients (Peanut butter has around 7g of protein per serving.).

The first crunchy peanut butter was made by Rosefield under the Skippy brand.

In the United States, peanut butter must contain 90% peanuts to be called peanut butter otherwise it must be called peanut spread.

Peanut butter and vegetables can be used to make a healthy snack.
