Spicy Apple Cake Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Margarine
- 1/2 cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 cup White Sugar
- 2 Eggs beaten
- 1 cup Pie Apples mashed
- 2 cups Flour
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp Mixed Spice
- 1/2 cup Fruit Cake Mix
- 1/2 cup Walnuts chopped
- 1 tsp Vanilla Essence
Caramel Icing
- 2 tbsp Margarine
- 1 cup Icing Sugar
- 2 tsp Brown Sugar
- 1 tsp Warm Water
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 180°C.
- Beat margarine and sugar until light.
- Add beaten eggs.
- Mix.
- Stir in apples, cake mix and walnuts.
- Sift flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda and spices together.
- Mix with the eggs mixture.
- Put in a prepared ring pan.
- Bake at 180°C for 20 minutes.
- Reduce heat to 160° and bake for another 25 minutes.
- Leave to cool.
Caramel Icing
- Heat margarine and sugar over low heat until sugar has melted.
- Remove from heat.
- Add sifted icing sugar.
- Mix.
- Add a little bit of water to make a icing.
- Pour over cold cake.
- Decorate with cherries.

Cinnamon is the bark of the Cinnamon tree. It is evergreen with thick bark and oval leaves. The tree is grown for two years before it is cut down. Only the inner bark is used after it has been dried.

In ancient times cinnamon was highly prized and regarded as a gift fit for monarchs. Cinnamon was also used, by the Egyptians, to embalm mummies.
