Bobotie recipe

This is a typical South African dish and enjoyed by young and old. The flavors go well together. Its usually served with yellow rice, chutney and bananas.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams Mince
  • 1 tbls Margarine
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 slice Bread
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tsp Curry Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Sugar
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • Pepper to Taste
  • 1 tsp Turmeric
  • 1 tbls Lemon Juice
  • 2 tbls Almonds Flaked
  • 1/4 cup Raisins
  • 1 1/2 tbls Chutney

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  • Soak the bread in 1/4 cup of milk.
  • Fry onion in oil or butter till light brown.
  • Add meat and fry till until juices have rendered
  • Squeeze the milk out of the bread and mash.
  • Add all the ingredients to meat except the egg and milk.
  • Mix.
  • Put mixture into a ovenproof dish.
  • Beat egg and milk together and pour over meat.
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until egg has set.
  • Serve with yellow rice and chutney.
